We are always delighted when a long-standing client wants to entrust their latest project to us here at Leisure Bench, and even more so when this gives us the opportunity to combine their project with a new service that we were offering. In this case metal fabrication, and we couldn’t be happier to be working with a client we have worked with before to create the metal framed walk-in style picnic tables that they were looking for.

The brief

In the first instance our client was able to provide us with an image of exactly the type of metal framed walk in style picnic tables that they were hoping to replicate with the project. Having turned our design eye to this we were able to propose a solution that would consist of a fabricated frame with timber seats and a timber tabletop.

The first stage in tackling this project was to lay out the required sizing for the legs. In order to ensure that the sizing and proportions were correct we did this in timber before moving on to fabricate them in steel.

We then manufactured both the tabletop and the seats using Redwood timbers. These beautiful pieces of timber were biscuit jointed and glued to ensure a tight join that is aesthetically pleasing. Each piece of wood was then carefully sealed and stained to help protect it, and to prolong its life.

Once we had completed the metal framework and were completely satisfied with the work that we had undertaken on them, we were able to send them to the powder coater. Here, they were treated to a hard-wearing finish of black gloss, an ideal choice of colour to go with the treated redwood table and seat tops. Once the powder coating, which will help to protect the frame of the picnic table from the elements, was completed, the frame was transported to the client’s location.

Here it was joined by the wooden table and seat tops and the entire metal framed walk in style picnic tables was assembled exactly where the client wanted it.

The finished product

The client was delighted with the results of the project, and we have to agree; the finish product looks perfect in their chosen location.

We were really pleased with how the whole project came together, and it allowed us the perfect opportunity to combine the metal fabrication work that we have recently added to our portfolio to our existing woodworking skills. The resulting metal framed walk in style picnic tables were the perfect project to work on and we couldn’t be happier than to have been entrusted with the project by a client of such long-standing.
